"Er? You're really here?" Jeremy sat up, fresh tears spilling down his cheeks. "You're alive? But he said you were dead! How can you be here?" It was almost too much to believe, seeing her and realizing that she truly was sitting on the edge of his bed.
"When they told me that both you and Anna were gone, I just... I can't handle losing you, Erika. I can't. And I wasn't trying to kill myself no matter what anyone tells you. I had her blood, Anna's blood. She gave it to me, said that if I died with it in my system I could become a vampire. Not alive, exactly, but not really dead either. I couldn't do that to Elena. I thought I found a way that I could still be here for her but not have to feel the pain of losing you anymore..." his voice trailed off again. "I just wanted the pain to go away. I'm not strong enough to do this alone."
Part of his mind recognized that he was babbling and crying like a two-year-old, but he didn't care. He needed to explain to her, to make her understand even if nobody else did. He reached out and took her hands in his and pressed them against his chest over his heart. "I love you, Erika," he whispered.

Erika jumped a tiny bit when he sat up. She listened and she knew that he wanted to be a vampire. Erika could feel his heart beating under hands and smiled at him, she removed her hands from his and wiped away his tear. She placed her hands on either side of his face as she kissed him softly. After she pulled away, she took Jeremy's hand in her own, "Being a vampire wouldn't have fixed anything Jer. When you shut off feeling anything, you loose yourself and who you really are." she said quietly.
Erika looekd at his eyes, which were still wet from his tears, "You'll never be alone Jeremy. You have family and friends who would have helped you though this. The memories from that pain you felt when you lost someone would always be there. You can't erase that." she said as she pulled him into a huge, "I love you too Jeremy." she said to him, silent tears rolling down her cheeks now.

"My Erika," Jeremy stated, holding on to her as if his very life depended on it. In a way it did, really. She was his lifeline, his solid hold on a world that seemed more and more unfriendly and unwelcoming by the day. He knew it was going to be a long road, and that there were many who he would simply have to allow to believe that he had tried to end his life. If most of them knew that he was trying to become a vampire they wouldn't just put him on suicide watch for the rest of his natural life, they'd probably lock him up in a padded cell for good measure. With her at his side he could make it through what were sure to be incredibly crappy weeks ahead.
Without her, they may as well go ahead and lock him up.
"I can't do this alone," he told her, not really planning to, just letting the words come as they wanted to. "They all think I've gone off the deep end, Er. They're going to be watching every move I make for God alone knows how long. If I'm lucky Jenna may decide to let me out of her sight for a few minutes in forty years or so." he sighed into her hair, then noticed that she was holding herself carefully so that she wasn't moving too far too quickly. He released his hold on her and frowned in concern. "You're hurt! Why didn't you tell me? How bad is it, what did they do to you?"

Erika smiled as he held her tight, avoiding any sounds of pain as he did this. My Erika. she heard him say, which made her smile even more than before. No one could go though what he was going through alone, it's hard and she knew it. Erika had watched so many people she knew and cared about die and she thought she couldn't handle it, but everything that had happened to Jeremy had happened over a time period of two years, she at least had 5 in between. Jenna, well he was probably right, but Jenna was probably also wondering why the hell there was four severed fingers on her kitchen counter.
Erika listened to his voice, the voice that she feared she'd have to talk to as she staked him so he wouldn't pose a threat to the town or to Damon. Eriak would tell him that later, "Jenna will come around, she just worries about you." she said. She looked at his concerned face, "They injected me with vervain, that's what they did. Then they shoved me into a basement of your father's old building and decided to set it on fire. I was in the process of getting myself out when a support beam and I think a piece of the ceiling landed on me, making me go down the stairs. I think I broke, well alot fo somethings. I'll be fine in a few days. It really isn't that bad" she lied about the last bit. Erika was a tough girl, but on some level was still human and hated pain as much as the next person, "At least it wasn't a stake this time." she said as she pushed Jeremy back, so he was laying down.
Carefully and as best she could, she curled up next to him, not wanting to move. Erika sighed as she rested her head on his chest, she smiled as she could hear his heart beat, "My new favorite sound." she muttered.

Jeremy moved over as much as he could in the narrow hospital bed to make room for her and gently held her, smiling as she snuggled against him with her head pillowed on his chest. "If I ever get my hands on the people who did this to you I swear they'll wish they had never touched you. Goddamn John Gilbert and his stupid, paranoid followers."
He slid his fingers through her hair, and pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head. "You usually heal pretty fast, don't you, way faster than most people do? I know you've broken things before and been okay a few hours later, is it because of his stupid device that you're not healing? And couldn't Giles help you?"
A thought occurred to him then, but he wasn't sure he really wanted to know the answer. "Er, if you got out and you're okay, what about Anna? Is she...?" he stopped, unable to voice the question. He had Erika back, it seemed unreasonable to want his oddly endearing friend to have survived as well.

Erika has snuggled up to his warn body, her tiny one not taking up much room. Johnathan Gilbert, just the very use of his name made her want to throw up, which she apparently could, "Johnathan Gilbert's dead. Someone, well, murdered him in your kitchen. Jenna now has a dead body and four severed fingers to deal with. Officer Forbes wanted nothing to do with this, she spoke to Damon. Alaric saved Stefan as well, the only person at fault here is now very dead." she said to him, eyelids heavy.
She smiled as she felt him run his fingers through her hair, which was probably just as sooty as her face was, "I probably smell and taste like Jenna's epic failure of trying to bar-b Que that chicken." she said, laughing lightly, "It's the varvain that's affecting me like this. It should pass through my system soon, but I'll be hurting for a few days. I haven't seen Giles since the fireworks started, and with her concoctions... I'd rather endure the three days then have to down one of those. Bleh." she said.
Erika looked up at him, then snuggled back down, "Anna's alive and fine, she got out the same time I did. How, I don't know, but I do know that she's fine, not too happy about the vervain mind you, but she's okay." Erika's voice has trailed off by the end of that. Her eyes had closed and she had fallen asleep in Jeremy's arms, from crashing off of the adrenaline and the pain. Her body told her to shut up and go to sleep, which is exactly what she did.

Jeremy closed his eyes and let the waves of relief wash over him. Anna was alive. Erika was alive and apparently willing to forgive his actions. He lay still for a long time, holding her in his arms and listening to her breathe, feeling her body relax against his as sleep claimed her.
Funny, he thought, that someone immortal would still need to sleep. Then again, the vervain coursing through her system was blocking her natural self-healing ability so maybe she was like everyone else in that regard, and sleep was as just as healing to her.
He tried to will his brain to shut off for awhile, but too much had happened. John was dead, which was a good thing, but he wondered how well-equipped Jenna was going to be to have to deal with a body, let alone the... "Severed fingers?" he asked out loud. How many people knew that in order to effectively kill his uncle his ring would first have to be removed? "Who killed him anyway?" he wondered. Erika's breathing remained slow and steady, though, and he smiled a little. She was definitely down for the count.
Several times during the night nurses came in to take his vitals and check on him, but every time the door opened he closed his eyes and pretended to be sleeping. He had no intention of acknowledging anyone unless they tried to tell Erika to leave, which none of them did. Eventually his thoughts stopped chasing each other around like a mouse running in circles at the bottom of a jar and he fell into a deep, healing sleep of his own with the girl he loved still curled up at his side.

The morning seemed to come all to soon. Erika being Erika went to go to turn off the light at her bedside table and realized that there was no light to turn off. She groaned quietly as she snuggled back down ito Jeremy. She wasn't as sore as she was last night, but was as stiff as ply wood. She sighed as she felt her tiny body throb. "Meh." she muttered against Jer's chest. She could still hear hist heart beating under her head, she smiled at that. She was happy this wasn't a dream, well she would have prefered if Founder's Day in general was dream. None of this would have happened if it was just a dream. Jeremy wouldn't have tried to become a vampire, Mayor Lockwood wouldn't have died, Damon and Stefan's life wouldn't have been put at risk.
She looked up at the very plain white ceiling. He was definatly going to go insane in this place, so white, so blank. She wondered how long it took his mind to shut off before he fell asleep. Knowing Jeremy, she thought, probably a long time. She stretched out one of her legs slowly. It hurt a bit, then she really did feel the stiffness.
Erika looked out the window and saw the sun shining into the room, she still was wishing it was a light that she could shut off with a flick of a switch, but she couldn't. She looked up at Jeremy, who was still sound asleep, but stirred slightly.

Jeremy had slept badly, with disjointed images of friends and family, both living and long gone, haunting his dreams.
He opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling for a moment in confusion, where the hell was he? Then it came back to him and he closed his eyes again, opening them at the funny little sound Erika made. He half-smiled at her. "Good morning," he said quietly. "They didn't try to chase you out of here last night?" That was a surprise, he figured that after he had actually fallen asleep for real they would have removed Erika from his room. "I really don't want to stay in here. I don't think I can stand being locked up under constant surveillance. I don't suppose you'd be able to convince Damon to compel them to let me go home, would you?" he asked hopefully.

"Morning." she said as she kissed his neck, which was really all she could reach at the moment. Erika laughed lightly, "Jer, no matter where you are, you're going to be locked up under constant surveillance. Jenna may not even let Elena out of the house after discovering John in her kitchen." she said, stretching out her other leg, "Meh." she squeaked, "And nope, they didn't kick me out, they probably weren't able to wake me up so they could kick me out." she grinned up at him, "I could Damon to convince both Jenna and the people here to let you out of both here and your house... before you turn forty."
She looked over at the door, expecting Jenna to come in, worried and then sort of yelling, then back to worrying, then yelling somemore. She didn't thankfully, if Jenna did come in, she'd make Erika leave and when Jenna's in one of those worry yet yelly moods, it's best to not be in the same room.

"Yeah, but constant surveillance is going to be so much more doable at home, especially since I know that you can climb up into my window without being seen. And hide out in the closet, or the bathroom if necessary." he kissed her. "Or pretend to be visiting Elena, since you're her best friend, and there's no way Jenna is going to ban you from the house."
"Besides, this is Damon's fault anyway, he was the one who told me you and Anna were dead. The least he can do is spring me from this prison, right?" He looked up as the door to the room opened, expecting it to be Jenna on a rampage. That was going to be hard to take, it usually was. He debated pretending to be asleep.

Elena had slipped out of the house early, so she could see Jeremy before Jenna came and yelled then asked if he was okay and what the hell he was thinking. She was still a little shaken after meeting Katherine last night. Elena walked down the busy streets of Mystic Falls, many were talking about Jeremy and the accident that envolved Tyler, Matt and Caroline. She heard a few people mention Mayor Lockwood's death. Poor Tyler, she thought. Elena kept her arms crossed over her chest as she walked into the hospital and found Jeremy's room. She softly knocked on the door before she opened it.
"Jer? You awake?" she asked. She looked over and saw Erika, who looked like hell. This was one hell of a Founder's Day, maybe she would leave town next year, just leave and not come back until it was over, "You okay Jer?" she asked as she sat in a chair opposite his bed.

Jeremy looked at his sister, happier than he would have imagined to see her. "Yeah, I'm okay, are you? I heard about John, what happened? Erika only told me he was dead. Jenna's gonna kill me." he sighed and ran his hand through his hair. Elena looked as if she hadn't slept either, and she had that look about her that meant that she had some bad news she was reluctant to share. "What's going on?"

Elena smiled at Jeremy, "I'm...well... not sure." Elean shuttered at the memory of seeing "father" on the floor in a poll of blood and his fingers on the counter, "He was apparently my biological father. Someone cut off his fingers then stabebd him, don't know who though. Jenna threw up for God knows how long after seeing that, frankly, I can't blame her. Jenna's worried about you, I don't think she's going to want to kil you Jer." she said to him. She had tried to hide that look that meant she had bad news but didn't want to share.
"I'm going to assume you've told him about Katherine." Elena said. Erika nodded at her. She looked back up at her brother, "Katherine tricked Jenna into thinking she was me and invited her into the house. And I had a run in with her before she left. I have no idea where she went, but she made out with Damon on the porch. This isn't good for anyone." she said quietly.

Jeremy took a few moments to process what his sister had told him. "Because he knew she was Katherine or because he thought she was you?" was the first question that came to mind. He shook his head before she could answer. "Never mind that one, I really couldn't care less. Is Jenna okay, Elena? Not that I'm one to talk, but she really doesn't cope well with the unusual." That was a bit of an understatement, actually, but to his knowledge she hadn't tried to get herself turned into a vampire because she couldn't deal.
"You had a run-in with Katherine and she didn't just kill you?" he asked with an unusual lack of tact. "I didn't mean that quite the way it came out. It's just that you have so much that she apparently wants, right?" He frowned. "Is it possible to uninvite a vampire from your home?"
