Damon squeezed her lightly before letting her go. "She kisses me, and she laughs. Not the reaction I usually look for, but okay...?" He grinned, then looked back at Stefan.
"Look, not that its any of your business what I do, Stefan, but I think this thing can help Nina, she still hasn't recovered from the effects of it." He took a piece of it out of his pocket, examined it for a moment before putting it back and turning back to Erika. "Same reason I want the journal. Apparently she and Jonathan Gilbert were working on a way to neutralize her blood, and she's hoping he might have written something down."

Stefan stared at Damon, not quite willing to believe what he was hearing. "Wait. You're telling us that all of this, this new, strange, very un-Damonlike behaviour, is because of a woman? You've decided to change, to become, well..." what the hell was the word he was looking for anyway? Nice, helpful, normal? None of them quite described it. "...because of her? What the hell, Damon? When did all of this happen? Because there have been hundreds of women in your life and none of them have had anywhere near this effect on you."
He thought for a minute, then shook his head. "Or it it just because you finally came across a woman you can't have? You can't coerce her, and even if you could she's poisonous to you, so if that's all it is, then why bother?"

Damon flashed his patented half-grin at his brother and shrugged. "Hundreds? Damn, I must have lost count somewhere..." He turned and looked back at Erika. "If you can borrow the journal from your boyfriend, it would be appreciated. As for me, I'm going to take this next door. See ya later."
He walked out of the room, knowing they were both watching and really not caring. Granted, Stefan was right on a lot of fronts. There had been a lot of women, most of whom hadn't meant a thing to him beyond a snack and a night's pleasure. But up until recently he had been solely fixated on getting Katherine out. Finding out that she wasn't there, and that she knew all along he had been trying and couldn't give a rat's ass, then the week he had spent in a drunken stupor getting over it... He shook his head. What a waste of more than a century.
He wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not, and he certainly wasn't going to admit it to Stefan of all people, but there was something about Nina Giles that made him feel... like he hadn't felt since he had been human. The fact that she was unattainable, for now at least, just added a little spice to the mix.

Erika glared at Stefan as she put a hand on her hip. "Would it kill you to be a alittle nicer to him Stefan? You saved his ass from the fire, and yet you still act like you wish he never came back. I don't get you Stefan, I don't understand why you're doing this. He's trying, you should to." she said to take breath and started to speak before Stefan could jump in, "Hear me out okay? Yeah, he may be a dick at times, but he;s still your brother and this house belongs to both of you, therefore you have to deal with him being in the house too and I'm not saying bugger off and don't come back, I'm saying you two need to have a talk, just a nice ocnversation that doesn't envolve violence, staking or Katherine!" She said.
Erika crossed her arms, "A lot has gone on this week and you two fighting isn't helping anything. Just... well... You try to... play a game of football, like you did the day you met me in 1864. You two were having fun and laughing and there was no conflict, not fighting no nothing. Just two brothers out playing a game and having fun." Erika looked at him and met his eyes, "Just try, for me?" she asked.

Stefan stared at her for a full minute, then laughed. He couldn't help it, but the idea of actually suggesting to Damon, psychopathic, angry and cynical Damon, that they go toss a football around was so absurd...
"He's Damon, Erika! He's not going to change, not after all these years. I don't know what he thinks he's going to accomplish or what he's plotting, but even you can't be naïve enough to believe that he woke up one morning and decided to be the old, charming, 'nice' Damon that he was before we were turned." He shook his head, still smirking a little. "Not in this lifetime, and not for anyone."
